Our Story
A Legacy of Excellence in Radiation Safety
MH Chew Associates is a small business founded in 1988 by Melton H. Chew after his distinguished career at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. As a leading provider of technical and scientific expertise, we specialize in radiation safety, nuclear criticality safety, regulatory compliance, radiation shielding, and transport modeling.
Over three decades later, we continue to uphold the principles Mel established. We serve federal, state, and private sector clients across the energy, defense, and environmental sectors.

Our Mission
Why We Exist
MH Chew Associates delivers rigorous radiation safety engineering, nuclear criticality analysis, and scientific consulting to the nation's most demanding programs — bringing deep subject matter expertise, advanced modeling, and innovative solutions to every engagement.
Our Vision
Where We're Headed
To become the nation's foremost full-scope nuclear safety engineering practice — where world-class subject matter experts, state-of-the-art analytical tools, and regulatory mastery converge to solve what others cannot.
Our Values
Principles That Guide Every Engagement
Scientific Rigor
Our analysis is only as valuable as it is accurate. We apply disciplined scientific methodology — validated models, peer-reviewed approaches, and documented assumptions — because in nuclear safety, precision is not optional.
Regulatory Mastery
We navigate DOE orders, NRC regulations, and site-specific requirements with authority — not just familiarity. Our team helps clients achieve compliance that is defensible, durable, and grounded in a deep understanding of regulatory intent.
Analytical Innovation
State-of-the-art tools like MCNP and Attila are only as powerful as the minds behind them. We invest in advanced modeling capabilities and push the boundaries of what's analytically possible — delivering faster, higher-fidelity results.
Subject Matter Authority
Our Certified Health Physicists, engineers, and scientists do not generalize — they specialize. Decades of focused experience across radiation protection, criticality safety, and D&D programs is what sets MH Chew apart.
Tailored Solutions
No two client challenges are identical. We bring creative, cost-effective thinking to every scope — designing solutions that fit the problem, not the template — because innovative science should also be practical and efficient.
