Our Story

MH Chew Associates is a small business founded in 1988 by Melton H. Chew after his distinguished career at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. As a leading provider of technical and scientific expertise, we specialize in radiation safety, nuclear criticality safety, regulatory compliance, radiation shielding, and transport modeling.
Over three decades later, we continue to uphold the principles Mel established: technical excellence, unwavering integrity, and dedication to protecting workers and the public from radiation hazards. We serve federal, state, and private sector clients across the energy, defense, and environmental sectors.
Our team includes Certified Health Physicists, Certified Industrial Hygienists, radiological and nuclear engineers, chemists, physicists, and mathematicians. Many of our team members hold active DOE “Q” clearances. We are trusted by DOE National Laboratories, NIOSH, CDC, and private industry across the United States.

Melton H. Chew
Founder
Melton H. Chew founded MH Chew Associates in 1988 after a distinguished career in radiation protection at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. His vision was to provide the highest quality radiation safety consulting services to government and private sector clients.
Mel was a pioneer in the field of health physics, contributing to the development of radiation protection standards and practices that continue to guide the industry today. His commitment to scientific excellence and client service established the foundation for everything we do.
Though Mel passed away in 2020, his legacy lives on in the work we do every day. We remain committed to the principles he established: technical excellence, unwavering integrity, and dedication to protecting workers and the public from radiation hazards.
